Read a Free Magazine Designed for Quiet Spirits

The other week, I got to do some magazine design for work and it reminded me how much I love doing Oh Beloved One, and how much I miss it. Although the staff has long since disbanded and I don’t have the bandwidth to make a full-length magazine every month, I thought I’d embrace the creativity and make the magazine I dreamed of as a child. When I was 12 or 13, I went clothes shopping with my Aunt Bethany and felt so grown up. I wanted to be a fashion designer at the time, and my aunt kindly took “fashion” photos of me in my outfits (looking back, of course the clothes was abominable—Justice t-shirts and Ugg-inspired boots). I told her I’d go home and make a magazine, and I knew immediately I’d call it Wallflower because that’s what I’ve always felt like.

I looked up the connotation online, and it looked a little negative, but I’ve never felt like referring to myself as a wallflower is something negative. It’s something I choose. I enjoy watching and listening to people, hanging on the fringe with the other quiet types. Nothing worthwhile happens in the spotlight, ya know?

So, this magazine is an ode to that 12-year-old girl, and the quiet yet strong woman she’s become—and you’ve become, dear reader. Your quietness is your strength, your gentleness your crown. In here, you’ll find articles that encourage creativity and a quiet lifestyle. I hope you enjoy! You can read for free here.
