submission guidelines

Yes, we’re currently open for submissions!

Thank you for your interest in being part of this publication! Wallflower is a free magazine and therefore requires volunteer submissions to make it possible.

Please read all the information below before emailing your work to amanda[at]5brownkids.com with the subject line “Wallflower Magazine Submission – Your Title Here.” You may also pitch an article before writing/submitting.

Issue Theme: Soft Rebellion – An issue dedicated to those whose “no” is quiet, but uncompromising. They may not charge into a meeting with sharp words and demand action; but they know how to make ripples in a lake on their own terms. These women have accepted their gentle demeanor but don’t allow others to stomp on them. The world will not beat them down.

Submissions open until January 31, 2026. Issue releases by the end of Q1.

  • 12-point Times New Roman font
  • Your working title at the top of the page
  • The name you would like printed in the magazine
  • Your article
  • A short author bio (2–3 sentences)
  • Optional: your website or Instagram handle if you’d like it included
  • Submit as a .pdf file or Google Docs link

In this fast-paced society, we want the majority of articles to be short and to the point. However, there is room for longer, thoughtful essays as well.

  • Short-form pieces: 300–800 words
  • Long-form essays: up to 1,500 words
  • If your article is over 800 words, please note it may require shortening for publication.

Wallflower Magazine reserves the right to edit submissions for clarity, grammar, and length without changing the author’s original intent. If significant changes beyond spellchecking and proofreading are made, your article will be sent back for review and approval prior to publication.

We do not accept work containing profanity, hatred, or cruelty of any kind. We also keep our magazine free of political agendas. Wallflower exists as a place of rest, reflection, truth, and beauty.

Your submission can be previously published on a blog or even another publication (if they allow you to), just please make note of it in your submission.

We do not accept articles, photography, or visual work created using AI tools of any kind. All written and visual submissions must be the original work of a human creator.

Photography and other visual works (like photos of personal art projects, or even original musical compositions) are warmly encouraged.

  • High-resolution images only (300 dpi)
  • JPEG or PNG format

We welcome both original work and previously published pieces, including work that has appeared on personal blogs or in other publications, provided the author holds the rights and the original publisher permits reprints.

  • Authors must disclose if a submission has been previously published and where it first appeared.
  • By submitting, you grant Wallflower Magazine non-exclusive, one-time rights to publish the work in print and/or digital formats.
  • All rights remain with the author.
  • If republished elsewhere, we kindly ask that Wallflower Magazine be credited as a place of publication.
