used to

The thunder used to scare me, used to hunt me in my room;

Thirsty grumblings launched their shadows at the ceiling o’er my tomb.

Darkened rumblings casting light from a forever hungry gut

Leading silver chains to smoldering cells from flames and heaven cut.

Now I lie awake in bed when I can hear the banshee calling,

Smile in glee when shards of heat explode and from the sky are falling.

Then I realize as I call for it to thunder louder more

That to what I used to fear I now cry, “Sky, encore, encore!”

It’s so interesting to me that what we used to fear when we were younger can become a thing we enjoy when we are older. This can be either a terrifying or liberating thought. Certainly made me think!
