Originally, this blog was also supposed to feature things that I create. Hopefully, one day I can look back on all this and reminisce about the “good times” I had in all these crazy creative classes haha.
Our latest project was creating a colored mandala. Follow my process below!
ONE // choose a photo
I thought this photo of a crowded Chinese street had a lot of shape potential

TWO // abstract the shapes and digitize
I ended up really liking the one where I challenged myself to only use only nonorganic shapes (squares, circles, triangles, even hexagons)
THREE // select the best one and divide into quadrants

FOUR // choose the best “slice” and create color studies (then mirror the image and create another version of the same color study)
Of course, I ended up going with the one that had yellow as a main color. I then saturated the colors for the other version.

FIVE // combine the two colors studies
everyone says it came out rather aztec-y, which I really like!

SIX // outline and create a template

SEVEN // transfer to illustration board and paint
currently on this step!! good luck to me . . . this is a super time consuming process.
