love ballad for the firmament

The roar of a science

That doesn’t make sense to me

Stirs the air;

Tin can in an aerial sea.

The sky pulls at my stomach;

I’m thrown back in my seat.

We leave the earth

Like loud ghost feet.

Darkness scrapes the sun away.

I look out my window and find

Stars flipped upside down,

Columns of metal in a bind.

Thumps rock me in my seat.

I’m at a rock concert which

I didn’t sign up for—

A baby provides the pitch.

A comforting angel

Announces we may fall prostrate

Back into the world we left.

The concrete carpet accepts us like fate.

Metal bird and fragile world

Kiss; they oscillate in an airy cadence.

I alight from the firmament;

Dear bliss, I haven’t felt the same ever since.
